Y’alls Offense Quieted in Series-Tying Defeat

PATERSON, NJ – The Florence Y’alls (24-32), presented by Towne Properties, mustered only a lone run in a series-tying 6-1 defeat to the New Jersey Jackals (35-19) at Hinchliffe Stadium on Wednesday.

The Y’alls and righthander Bobby Brabrand (5.0 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 8 BB, 4 K) fell behind quickly in the first inning. After a one-out walk to third baseman James Nelson, first baseman Keon Barnum came to the plate and hit his second home run of the series to give the Jackals a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Jackals used plate patience for a multiple-run rally. The Jackals plated three runs on five walks and one hit – an RBI single from designated hitter Alex Toral – against Brabrand. After three innings, the Jackals led 5-0.

Florence’s lone run on the day came in the sixth inning against Jackals’ starter Jorge Tavarez (6.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K). Second baseman Tristin Garcia led off the inning with a home run to right – his first home run in 10 starts with the Y’alls and first as a professional. The long ball cut the Jersey lead to 5-1, but the Jackals responded in the bottom of the sixth. Y’alls righthander Rodney Hutchison loaded the bases with a walk, a hit batter, and a single ahead of left fielder Josh Rehwaldt, who hit into a run-scoring fielder’s choice that made it 6-1 Jackals.

The Y’alls could not muster any more on offense against Jackals’ righthander Yuhi Sako, who pitched the final three innings of the game to notch the save. The series between the Y’alls and Jackals is now even at a game apiece. Game 3 between Florence and New Jersey is scheduled for Thursday, July 20th at 6:35 p.m. ET.
