New York Boulders
Y’alls Lose Series, Tenth Consecutive Game
FLORENCE, KY – The Florence Y’alls (21-29), presented by Towne Properties, suffered through a blowout
16-2 loss at home against the New York Boulders (28-20). The defeat clinches a fifth straight series defeat for Florence one game ahead of the All-Star Break.
Florence scored first in the first inning. After first baseman Craig Massey doubled to lead things off, designated hitter Brennan Price came to the plate one batter later and singled to right to drive in Massey. Price’s RBI made it 1-0 Florence.
In the second, the Boulders came to hit in driving rain but still put up four runs on Florence starter Edgar Martinez (5.0 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 5 BB, 7 K). A leadoff walk to left fielder David Vinsky and a one-out single from designated hitter Jimmy Costin brought catcher Joe DeLuca to the plate, who doubled home Vinsky to tie the game at 1-1. A wild pitch then brought Costin in from third to give the Boulders a 2-1 lead. With DeLuca at third, right fielder Giovanni Garbella grounded out to bring the former home and increase the New York lead to 3-1. With two outs, center fielder Pat Kivlehan drove in the final Boulders run of the inning with a double. After two innings, the Y’alls trailed 4-1.
New York third baseman Thomas Walraven hit a solo home run in the third to make it 5-1, but the Y’alls answered in the fourth. Right fielder Ray Zuberer led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a Jeremiah Burks single, moved to third on a fielder’s choice, then scored on an error on New York shortstop Gabriel Garcia. The run brought the Y’alls to within 5-2, but Florence would not score again in the contest.
New York then went to work on offense versus the Y’alls middle relief. The Boulders scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth before a five-run outburst in the seventh put the game away. Thomas Walraven’s second home run of the night – a seventh-inning grand slam off Florence righthander Jestin Jones that made the score 14-2 – was the exclamation point during an emphatic New York win.
The Y’alls have now lost 10 straight games and 18 of their last 22. Florence now tries to head into the All-Star Break with positive momentum with a win on Sunday. The Y’alls and Boulders play their series finale on July 9th with first pitch scheduled for 1:07 p.m. ET.
