Y’alls Suffer Another One-Run Loss to Boomers
SCHAUMBURG, IL – For the fourth time on this road trip, the Florence Y’alls found themselves in a one-run game. And for the fourth time on the road trip, the Y’alls came out on the losing end, today an 8-7 defeat in the second game of the series against the Schaumburg Boomers at Wintrust Field.
With two outs and the Y’alls trailing by two runs in the top of the ninth inning, Cooper Edwards singled to left field to extend the ballgame. Ray Zubeber doubled Edwards home to pull within the 8-7 score, but Bryant Flete popped out to third to finish off the game. The Y’alls lost 2-1 last night and suffered two one-run losses to Washington during the first stop on this seven-game road trip.
The Y’alls had their chances starting from the very first batter of the game. Flete jumped on Boomers’ starting pitcher Kyle Arjona for a leadoff home run as part of a two-run first inning for Florence, but the Boomers immediately took the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a Chase Dawson RBI single and a two-run single for Jordan Wiley.
Schaumburg extended its lead to 5-2 in the fourth inning with a RBI triple for Brett Milazzo and a RBI hit for Clint Hardy. Florence, however, would rally for four runs in the sixth inning. Harrison DiNicola brought home a run on a double, Brennan Price drove home DiNicola on a single, and Axel Johnson brought home Price on a two-run home run for the 6-5 lead.
Again, the Boomers would not let that Florence lead last. Hardy and Alec Craig each recorded RBI singles in the sixth to take the 7-6 lead, and Craig would drive in another run in the eighth for some insurance which proved to be game-winning run. Hardy finished with three hits and two RBI, pushing him into second place on the Boomers’ all-time RBI list. Craig had two hits, as did Milazzo and Wiley.
Price finished with a three-hit game for Florence, and Flete had his first two-hit game as a Y’all. The home run for Johnson was his second of the road trip, and he now has six RBI this week. DiNicola’s eighteenth double extended his hitting streak to eight games and extended his two-bagger lead atop the Frontier League.
The Y’alls look to snap the five-game losing skid tomorrow, Sunday, July 3, with a 6:05 PM CDT first pitch against the Boomers. Yasel Santana gets the start, hoping to put an end to the Boomers’ five-game winning streak.
